An asymptotic analysis of polymer desorption and skinning

چکیده

During desorption of penetrant-saturated polymers, a glassy skin can form at the exposed surface. The associated dynamics are not purely Fickian due to viscoelastic relaxation effects in the polymer. A model is presented which captures these nonlocal effects. The motion of the glass-rubber interface and the accumulated desorbed flux are calculated. The model also describes trapping skinning, where an increase in the driving force reduces the amount of penetrant released.

Skinning During Desorption of Polymers: An Asymptotic Analysis

Desorption of saturated polymers can be inhibited if a nearly dry (glassy) skin with a low diffusion coefficient forms at the exposed surface. In addition, trapping skinning can occur, where an increase in the force driving the desorption decreases the accumulated flux desorbed. The dynamics of such systems cannot be described by the simple Fickian diffusion equation. The mathematical model pre...

Trapping Skinning in Polymers: Theoretical Predictions

During the desorption of certain saturated polymer films, a thin skin of glassy polymer can form at the exposed surface. Not only does this inhibit desorption, but also trapping skinning, in which an increase in the desorption driving force decreases the accumulated flux, can occur. These behaviors cannot be described by a simple Fickian flux. A theoretical framework is presented for modeling s...

Desorption Overshoot in Polymer-Penetrant Systems: Asymptotic and Computational Results

Many practically relevant polymers undergoing desorption change from the rubbery (saturated) to the glassy (nearly dry) state. The dynamics of such systems cannot be described by the simple Fickian diffusion equation due to viscoelastic effects. The mathematical model solved numerically is a set of two coupled PDEs for concentration and stress. Asymptotic solutions are presented for a moving bo...

Asymptotic Analysis of Binary Gas Mixture Separation by Nanometric Tubular Ceramic Membranes: Cocurrent and Countercurrent Flow Patterns

Analytical gas-permeation models for predicting the separation process across  membranes (exit compositions and area requirement) constitutes an important and necessary step in understanding the overall performance of  membrane modules. But, the exact (numerical) solution methods suffer from the complexity of the solution. Therefore, solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations th...

Development of A Sample Preparation Method for evaluating Trace Residue of Bentazon Pesticide in Biological Matrices Using Dispersive Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) Method Based on Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP)

Introduction: Pesticides are among the broadest chemical compounds used in the world and are also considered as the most dangerous compounds for living organisms. Although pesticides have significant impact on improving agricultural and food products, the processes of their production, formulation, storage, transportation, and marketing as well as the extensive use of these materials lead to oc...
